It was by no means glamorous, but it was an adventure I'm so thankful to have taken. Ten cities in three weeks with friends at every stop, some who I hadn't seen in years. I booked my plane tickets with just one show scheduled, so the fact that I played in every city (some twice!) was an amazing blessing. Good times were had and lessons were learned, but the best part was getting to spend time with people I care about all over the country and share my music with them. My friends took such good care of me. They made this whole tour thing possible. SO THANK YOU... Jeromy, Vicki, Christy, Jourdan, Rachel, Kara Lee, Matt, Kerri, Ethan, Lauren, Natalie, Sergio, Kellie and everyone else who came out to the shows and encouraged me along the way. I am beyond grateful. And a big thank you to my NYC family who supported me through all of this, especially Star 76 for letting me wear your t-shirts all over the country. And my mom, because she said "Just book the ticket already!" 9.28.2007 ANOTHER GREAT NIGHT! Once again Florida surprised me. Tonight was a great night in Winter Park (just east of Orlando). Some old friends from college who now live in the area came out which made Austins Coffee feel like home. Thank you all for being there and to everyone there at Austins Coffee for making it such a great place to come hang out and listen to live music. I'll be on a plane back to NYC on Sunday. There will definitely be some tour re-cap postings complete with tour highlights and notables. And for my friends in New York, mark your calendars for Saturday, October 20th at Kenny's Castaways. More details to come. 9.20.2007 TONIGHT IN TAMPA I lived in Tampa for 18 years before I went away to college, spent every holiday there since and even lived there for all of 2005 while I took care of my dad. My family is there. Many of my friends are still there, too. But I've never connected with Tampa in any way musically until tonight thanks to Jesse and The Bunker. Actual singer-songwriters performing in Tampa -- I never thought I'd see the day. If you are a singer-songwriter in the area definitely contact this venue. We need to keep places like this alive in cities like Tampa where there aren't a lot of opportunities for artist to share original music. Thank you to everyone who showed up from all different parts of my life, family, childhood friends, college roommates, travel friends and everyone else. It was a great night. I cannot wait to come home and play at The Bunker again! Now I have a few days off to rest and then it's off to Orlando, Friday the 28th, to play at Austin's Coffee. LIVE EP IN THE WORKS The gig in L.A. was recorded so I'm working on getting a few of those new songs up on MySpace and on disc to sell. I'm also hoping to record a few more things while I'm home and in my old bedroom studio where I recorded To Feel Alive Around Here. More news on all of that soon! 9.18.2007 PLAYING THE BLUEBIRD CAFE I waited all night, through 21 other singer/songwriters, but I got my chance at the end of the night to play a song at the Bluebird Cafe open mike night. It was a nice welcome for me from Nashville that it worked out. Mapquest almost kept me from getting there, but luckily 4-1-1 stepped in and made it happen. Tonight at Edgehill Studios Cafe (on the corner of Villa Place and Edgehill Avenue) at 6 p.m. I'll be playing a full set. No cover. Can't wait! 9.16.2007 NASHVILLE NEXT Tell your friends... Tuesday night in Nashville, Edgehill Studios Cafe, 6 p.m. I said goodbye to the West Coast bright and early this morning (well there's nothing bright about 4 a.m. when I had to leave for the airport). The gig in San Francisco was a whole lot of fun -- and the city itself never disappoints. Thank you to Lauren and all her SF peeps for coming out to Ireland's 32. After two flights, a quick layover in Denver, and a four hour drive to Lexington, I ended up at Common Grounds for another great night of music. The coffee shop is a great little place. If you're in the area or a band or singer on tour, definitely check it out! Check out the photos on Flickr. 9.14.2007 THANK YOU, RENO! Tonight turned out to be one of the best nights yet on this tour. I had so much fun performing as the featured performer at Reno's Best Open Mike. Thank you to everyone for listening and to all of you who bought CDs. And to my friends here in the "The Biggest Little City in the World" thank you for showing me such a good time! Take a look at this shot I got on the drive home after the gig. Next stop is... San Francisco!! 9.14.2007 GOODBYE CALIFORNIA, HELLO NEVADA First of all, thank you so much to everyone who came out last night to the gig at Genghis Cohen in L.A. It was a great night -- so much fun to play for all my West-Coast-New-Yorkers! I hope to have some of the recordings from last night's gig up soon and a video or two maybe on the You Tube Channel so check that out as well (and while you're there watch this video from the Dallas show last week). I was having so much fun in Los Angeles that I didn't want to leave, but alas I am now in Nevada!! Tonight I'm the featured performer at a local Friday night open mike night put on by the Reno Music Project. I'm excited to check it out! 9.11.2007 GENGHIS COHEN THIS THURSDAY (9.13) I drove past the venue for Thursday's gig and checked it out. It's going to be great! Genghis Cohen is a restaurant but with an intimate listening room separate from the dining room. Get there at 10 to be sure and get a seat! Tell your friends in the L.A. area. I can't wait for Thursday!! Two very exciting things about Thursday's gig: 1.) It's going to be recorded so be there to add your clapping, laughing and cheering to the tracks. 2.) My friend, Kirsten Gerdes, will be joining me on stage on the violin. If those aren't reasons enough to be there, then I just don't know what to tell you! 9.10.2007 FINALLY ON THE WEST COAST Yup, I'm in L.A. and loving it. I've got some good friends here, so I'm excited to spend some time with them. And of course I'm trying to get everyone excited about the show this Thursday (9/13, 10 p.m. Genghis Cohen on Fairfax). I posted some more pictures from Austin on Flickr so be sure to check them out. And I also recorded a new song while I was in Austin. It's a rough demo I did one night in the hotel. The song is called "The Heart is Stronger". Click here to listen. 9.07.2007 A BIG, WARM DALLAS WELCOME Unlike the coffeehouse last night in Austin, Dallas seems to be expecting me. (Thank you to the guys at Thunderbird though for finding a PA short notice.) Tonight I am super excited to play at Opening Bell Coffee on South Lamar. It's a neat little place, so come hang out with me tonight if you're in the Dallas area. 9.06.2007 HOUSTON? CHECK! Yup, the first show of the tour went down last night in Houston at Rudyard's with my friends The Mustn'ts and my new friends Buckley. You must check out these two bands because frankly, they're awesome. The Mustn'ts are a folk duo made up of my friends Jeromy and Vicki. Their songwriting is so ridiculously strong and their harmonies a-grazing-ly tight. They will hopefully have some recordings up soon, and when they do check out the track "Yellow Dog" -- it was my favorite of the night. Buckley is also a performing duo, but not usually. Performing for the first time without a drummer, Stephen and Phillip held down the beats with the help of an iBook on stage making for some electronic goodness. They finished up their set with a few acoustic numbers including an ode to New York -- my personal favorite. Hopefully they'll be making their way to NYC sometime next year on tour -- you will have to check them out! I have to mention that before the show even began the day was already full of good times. Jeromy and Vicki along with more new friends, Rocky and Mya, and I spent the day laughing, eating too much Mexican and basically just having a good time. Thank you guys so much for making my first trip to the Houston area so much fun (best 16 hour visit ever). And thank you to Rocky for taking some photos at the show. Click on the photo to the right to view the rest in Flickr. More to come! I board a plane to Austin in a couple hours! 08.31.07 OUT WEST IN SEPTEMBER Tomorrow I fly out of NYC and begin what I hope to be the most amazing month of my life. No pressure, right? Thank you to my NYC family for sending me off in style this week. I cannot wait to return with stories from the road. I'd still love your help getting the word out, so in addition to the flyers you can link to here, I've now listed all the info for every stop along the way here so that you can easily access venue information for yourself and to pass along to friends in other tour-stop cities. And on a final note, I've posted a clip from the song "Leave Town" -- a song I wrote and recorded this rough demo of sometime in 2004, where the name of the tour came from. I've gotten several, "Out West? I don't see (insert Western state here) on the list!" 08.12.07 HOUSTON SHOW FLYER Check out the flyer for the Houston show, the first stop on the tour Wednesday, September 5th. Click here to check out Buckley, the featured band that night. And here for The Mustn'ts also playing. Thank you Jeromy and Vicki for making this night happen. I cannot wait to hit the road! WANT FLYERS FOR YOUR CITY'S SHOW Send your mailing address here with which show you want to help promote and an envelope of freshly printed flyers on pretty colored paper will arrive in your mailbox shortly. Thank you to everyone who has already offered to help in so many ways. I'll see you soon! NEW SHOW, NEW CITY, NEW STATE Thanks to the guys at Common Grounds Coffeehouse in Lexington, KY, for making an exception and booking music on a Sunday night! Another gig in Austin, a new Tampa date, and now Dallas is on the list as well! 08.08.07 LET THE BLOGGING BEGIN... So here it is, The Ashley Jones Official Tour Page.
